100 Miles in May for Mind

Hello there!

Just a quick post to let you know that I'm doing the 100 Miles in May for Mind.

Not sure why it isn't 100 Kilometres in May. Maybe it doesn't sound so snappy. It would be a bit easier!

Anyway, I'm preparing by building up my energy levels.  Not to be confused with snacking which by happy coincidence is similar. Well, almost similar. At least I think it is.

There are of course, more serious (and private) reasons as to why I'm doing this.

If you'd like to donate, then that'd be lovely! Please do so here

Thanking you kindly in advance.

I'll also be posting progress updates here in the Blog.  Just to show that I'm not fibbing.

Not I need any excuses to go for a long ramble!

Cheerio for now!

Keeping Busy and Blog Improvements

Hello there!

It's been a busy week, so I've not had much time to do a regular post and no time for new poems.

As the saying sort of goes: 'All work and no writing makes Badger a sad Brock' (Aaahh...)

But I have been working on ideas to add more and better quality content into this Blog.

Spring and Life (Regardless of the Weather)

Hello there!

It's been a pretty chilly first half of April.  To badly paraphrase Monty Python and The Holy Grail

'...and Spring gave Summer and Autumn a miss, and went straight on into Winter.'

I'm also aware that some folks are cursing the ongoing cold weather.

At least people can do something about the situation they are in.  Wait it out and do what you can until things improve.  Which is almost an analogy for the past year or so.

Wildlife however, doesn't have the option to delay for many weeks or months.  It has to carry on regardless, be it migrating birds or bringing new life into the world.

And just like last year, life continues despite whatever preys on our minds, or any other external craziness.

For example, this past week I've seen my first summer migrant - a Grasshopper Warbler rattling and churring away under a hedge.  I've also seen a Brown Hare with a young Leveret twitching and snaking their way along the edge of a field.

So Spring is still happening, even when we feel that the seasons are somehow blurring together.

Nature is still doing its usual slow reveal of new green shoots. Birdsong is increasing in variety and volume early in the day.

It's always there, just waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.

Cheerio for now!

NaPoWriMo - Day 9 - ProcrastinClaus

Day 9 poem written on Day 10 - so almost catching up!

The prompt was to do a to do list - for an unusual person or character.  I could’ve used my own list, but the Internet can only support so much cheese content before it collapses into itself.  Well, that’s according to string cheese theory.

Anyway, back to the poetry!

ProcrastinClaus

Written out like decks of cards

all shuffled, stacked against the wall.

billions of them needing sorting

into naughty and nice.

NaPoWriMo - Day 8 - (Two Poems) Lamp, D. and Sufferer, C.

NaPoWriMo Day 8 poems, written on, err, Day 10.  The prompt was to write a monologue from a dead person.

(Disclaimer Note: I appreciate that to some people the timing of this may seem insensitive in light of the recent passing of HRH Prince Philip.  That is not my intention.  Neither poem is about him or any member of the Royal Family).

Returning to the prompt, the first attempt turned out a little different to what was being asked...

Lamp, D.

I feel and give thanks

for your gratitude

about how I

illuminated your lives

just for a little while.

NaPoWriMo - Day 4 - Space < Between > Space

Hello there!

I seem to be running a bit behind on NaPoWriMo.  Also not able to get into all the activities due to time constraints.

So on Day 5, here is my Day 4 poem on the prompt of liminal spaces.  It is about a space I am familiar with - the early morning Anglian landscape.  The space between night and day, where the space between land and sky is often blurred.

NaPoWriMo Day 2 - Thorny Branches

NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 2 - Considering what would have happened, if I chose the road less taken.  Or another path.

Easter Holiday and Poetry

Hello there!

No new long post this week due to taking some time out to enjoy the Easter Holidays.

That and trying to train swans on the River Ouse to liven up the Boat Race.

Summertime Lethargy

Hello there! I've been feeling a bit frazzled with all the recent hot weather here. The stuffy heat is not good for a small badger of ve...
